If you're anything like me and you're definitely NOT a logical learner, you probably understand the struggle of dealing with the math section of the ACT. Especially as the questions get increasingly harder as the number gets larger. Well, I am on my way to taking the ACT this upcoming Saturday and I have been desperately seeking new study methods (because I have a certain score in mind that I am aiming for). So I've been watching back to back YouTube videos, learning from those who have higher scores on the ACT than me, and taking notes. In this article, I've attached a short video that I found helpful for the math section of the ACT and I listed the formulas that definitely will be beneficial to memorize for it (& that I also need to memorize myself) .

Formulas/Equations Needed for ACT Math

1. Point-Slope form

Y - Y 1 = M (X - X 1)

2. Distance formula

3. Quadratic formula

4. Circle formula

area : π r ² (pi r squared) r = radius

circumference : 2 π r

equation of a circle : (x - h) ² + (y - k) ² = r ² (h , k) = center

5. Midpoint formula

6. Volumes of 3-D figures!!!

rectangular prism : length(width)(height) or l * w * h

cube : a ³ a = edge

triangular prism : V = 1/2 b*h*l (base x height x length)

sphere : 4/3 π r ³

cone : 1/3 π r ² h

pyramid : 1/3 B*h (base x height)

7. Pythagorean Theorem!!!!

a ² + b ² = c ² (a , b , & c represent the sides of a triangle with c being the hypotenuse!!!)

8. Trigonometry!!!

SOH CAH TOA

sine = opposite/hypotenuse

cosine = adjacent/hypotenuse

tangent = opposite/adjacent

9. Probability

desired outcomes / number of total outcomes

10. Logarithms

11. Triangles!!!!!!!!

30 - 60 - 90

45 - 45 - 90

12. Bonus : discriminant

b ² - 4 a c

Now obviously, I didn't include every single formula that would appear on the ACT, but I just wanted to expose you guys to the main formulas that would be helpful to remember. Try to remember as much as you can, but if you aren't familiar with every single formula, that is perfectly fine. The important thing is that you do your best and keep your personal goal in mind. I hope these resources were helpful to you all & I will be coming soon with more ACT testing tips for each category!!! Btw, I recommend exploring YouTube for testimonies & tips from those with high scores, & be sure that if you haven't already, to check out my ACT prep/studying tips.
