When we first learned about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his role in the Civil Rights movement in the 2nd grade, I was like, "Finally something interesting 🙄."
Dr. King was more than just a black man that spoke out on black problems— he inspired everyone beyond his race & for reasons beyond activism. He was a man of great accomplishment. He was an example of a man who truly understood the purpose of education and applied it to his work. His education influenced his strategic and disciplined leadership, as he took on a nonviolent approach when he led protests and marches—an approach that, in due time, proved itself to be effective.
Beyond anything else, Dr. King taught us morality. He taught us the importance of selflessness.
"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?"
He taught us the importance of justice.
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter."
& he taught us the importance of equality.
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." - Martin Luther King Jr.
To this day, Dr. King continues to inspire generations of people and teach us the power of education. King used his education to challenge social justice issues and bring about change. What can you use your education for?
